The ministry did not specify who was behind the attack; however, given the previous presence of jihadists, it is highly likely that it was done by one of these groups there.
The attack comes at a time when the jihadist rebels of the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP), Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) and the Hurras Al-Deen group intensify their attacks against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) in the Idlib, Hama, Aleppo and Latakia governorates.
Over the weekend, the Syrian Arab Army moved in reinforcements to the northwestern region of the country, following a string of attacks carried out by these jihadist groups in the Idlib and Hama governorates.
At the same time, the Russian Aerospace Forces increased their aerial presence over the Latakia and Idlib governorates, as their warplanes reportedly hit several targets in the Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).
According to a field source from the Syrian Arab Army, the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted several raids over Jabal Al-Akrad this week, hitting the Turkestan Islamic Party’s positions at the Kabani hills, which are under the control of the Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
