In a brief statement, the coalition claimed that a drone had been “intercepted” and “destroyed” over the southern part of Saudi Arabia. The drone, whose type was not identified, was allegedly launched from Yemen.
“The Houthi terrorist militia continues its attempts to target civilians and civilian objects … We take operational measures to protect civilians … from these hostile attempts,” the statement, which was shared by the Saudi Press Agency, reads.
Usually, Houthi drones are intercepted by F-15 warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force armed with air-to-air missiles like the radar-guided AIM-120 AMRAAM.
The Houthis are yet to comment on the Saudi-led coalition’s claims. The Yemeni group usually announce its attacks on the Kingdom.
In the last few months, the Houthis launched dozens of attacks on Saudi Arabia with locally-made drones and missiles. The Yemeni group also carried out a large-scale ground operation on the border with the Kingdom’s southern province of Jizan.
